Welcome! I'm a long-time amateur photographer living in Raleigh, NC. I shoot when I can including vacations and business trips around North Carolina, the US and abroad. I've been shooting SLRs and film since the late 60s and finally went digital in 2005. I hope you enjoy your visit.

Backyard BIrds (and critters) : Here's a collection of recent bird photos taken in my backyard since December 2012. All photos were shot with a Nikon D800 camera and most were taken with either a 200 or 300mm lens with a 1.4x teleconverter and tripod. Note that the Carolina Chickadee, which is featured in this gallery, is very similar in size and appearance to the more northern Black-Capped Chickadee. Here's a link that describes the differences: http://www.birds.cornell.edu/pfw/AboutBirdsandFeeding/chickadeeIDtable.htm. The most obvious difference to me is the call, with the Carolina version having a faster and less distinctive "chick-a-dee-dee" than the BCC. Enjoy.

Nikkor 24-120 Samples : All photos except nos. 2 and 4 were test shots using a Nikkor 24-120 VR on a NIkon D70. I was thinking about buying the lens, and the camera store let me try it out. These were shot in August 2005 at Peace Street Camera in Raleigh, NC. Photo nos. 1 and 3 were hand held shots with the 24-120 at 1/8 second to test the VR. Followup shots at 1/8 second were then taken an 18-70 also on a D70. The VR proved to be effective in this very informal test.
